“Gavrish” Plant-breeding and Seed-production Company, founded in 1993, is the leading Russian enterprise in vegetable hybrids’ line breeding. Enterprises from the Middle East, North Africa, East and South Europe and Indo-China are among its business partners.
Its assortment includes the varieties and hybrids for diff erent geographical zones, diff erent types of cultivation and diff erent growing terms, as well as with peculiar plant characteristics complex pest and disease resistance.
“Gavrish” company is carrying on big research work in the sphere of vegetable growing, breeding and seed-production. In 2002, The Cover Ground Vegetable Breeding Research Institute (NIIOZG) was created, with its 4 experimental plant-breeding centers in Moscow and Tula regions, and in the south of Russia Krasnodar region).
New varieties are undergoing a wide-scale ecological test: the varieties the company is exporting need two-year preliminary tests in the native country. Initial evaluation of the varieties and hybrids for the Southern regions is made in Egypt, and Jordan. In the Middle East and North Africa vegetables cultivated throughout the year, weather conditions in the cover-ground crop rotation diff er greatly, and each growing term asks for appropriate hybrids – heat- and temperature change resistant, ultra-swift ripening, etc.
Open field vegetables is a new prospective direction in the company’s work, and there are already fi rst successful results.
Vast collections of base material, the breeders’ deep knowledge and rich experience, as well as the cooperation with scientifi c and research institutes allow to get quickly new varieties, totally corresponding to the highest requirements of vegetable growers. We take into consideration all the new tendencies in vegetable growing development and are creating hybrids for modern intensive technologies needed by the market, as well as hardy ecologically-plastic varieties for farmers. More than 300 varieties and hybrids for use in the Russian Federation produced by “Gavrish” plant-breeding and seedproduction company are included today in the Russian Federation Plant Breeding State Register.
